As you may already know, the exotic Italian automaker Ferrari is busy preparing a successor for their last anniversary celebrating halo super car, the Enzo. It only makes sense that the future car will be called the F70 in honor of a 70th anniversary and is promised to be unveiled sometime in 2012. The upcoming F70 would compete head to head with other high end limited edition super cars like the Lamborghini Reventón and Bugatti Veyron. There will only be 399 F70s produced and prices will range in the $1 Million region.
With efficiency high on their list of priorities, Ferrari wants to keep the future F70’s weight to a minimum (1000 kilograms), just like the Millechilli. Now this would be a substantial undertaking for any ordinary automaker, but Ferrari is ready to apply every weight saving technique in their arsenal. While the Enzo was powered by a high revving V12 that made 650 HP, the F70 will use a new direct injection twin turbo V8, quite similar to the legendary F40, with output in the area of 660 HP. This should be enough for the future super car to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in under three seconds and the F70’s top speed will go up to 230 MPH.
The Ford GT is for sure one of the best Ford ever, so its no surprise that even if out of production for long time now, it still gets lots of attention from tuners. And the US specialist Geiger Cars have prepared the HP790 kit based on the Ford GT.
The Geiger HP790 is powered by a 5.4 liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 790 hp (an increase of 240 hp over the standard version) and a peak torque of 863Nm. As a result de GT sprints from 0 to to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.6 seconds, breaks the 200km/h (124mph) mark 6 seconds later and reaches 300 km/h (186 mph) in only 22.8 seconds. Top speed is 223 mph.
The car has been lowered with 60-millimeter and sits on matte black alloy wheels outlined in the car color, mounted in 9x20 inches at the front and an impressive 11x21 at the rear.
Graham Goode Racing revealed details on the RS370FR package based on the Ford Focus RS sports hatchback. Thanks to a new carbon fiber Cold Air Induction System (CAIS), a larger capacity air to air intercooler with alloy air diverter plates, an upgraded ECU and a larger bore exhaust turbo front pipe and sports catalyst section the 2.5-litre, five cylinder turbocharged engine delivers 368bhp at 6383rpm and a peak torque of 339lb.ft at 4997rpm.
"It gives me great pleasure to launch this latest Focus RS upgrade, which builds upon the success and popularity of the 340 conversion, but raises performance to a new level. I am delighted with the outcome of the work undertaken by our technical team, because the RS370FR package is exceptionally fast, yet as usable and civilised as our numerous Focus RS customers expect."
The RS370FR package is available now, fully fitted at our Leicester premises for £3750.00 plus VAT.
The boys from Bonurant had to share the back lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center with the blue oval because as part of Ford’s Fiesta Movement, visitors to the 2009 SEMA Show had a chance to wait in line to take the all new premium compact for a spin. The Fiesta Movement is a grassroots marketing campaign set forth by the American automaker to promote their new product that will be unveiled a week from now in Los Angeles. The movement has generated millions of hits on youtube and registered 60,000 hand raisers while Ford lets its agents speak freely about the not even released vehicle; these are a few things that have certainly made the Fiesta’s Brand Manager Sam De La Garza awful proud. However the little ride and drive that Ford set up is sure to have converted a few more Americans into small car fans.
Speaking of tire smoking drift cars and Porsches, another familiar face at the 2009 SEMA Show was Falken with a pair of very different blue and green high performance machines to show off what Team Falken is all about. It is nice to see that one manufacturer can be so successful in two completely different disciplines of motor sport.
Representing the world of drifting where goal is to get sideways, light up the tires and hope for an outstanding crowd reaction in a matter of corners was Formula D driver and recent Japanese export Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s competition drift car, a 2010 Ford Mustang with enough supercharged Detroit iron under the hood to go through a set of Falkens in a matter of minutes. On the other hand, the Falken Porsche that races in the American Le Mans Series is about getting as much grip as possible from the sticky Falken slicks, keeping wheel spin to a minimum and hoping not to get the crowd on its feet until the end of the lengthy endurance race. If they got excited any sooner, it would probably signal the end of the car’s day. However as different as the setup on each of these cars is, they are both able to excel at their particular brand of motor sport.
The Hankook Tires drift team has come out with a few crazy creations over the past few years in order to hype up their products appeal to the sport’s sideways crazed fans. Up until this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas the wildest ride in the Hankook stable was a twin turbocharged Porsche 911 GT2 that defied physics and the odds when it’s driver Tyler McQuarrie was able to keep the back end of the rear engine sports car from coming around when he hung it out on the edge. Following up the wild winged Hankook GT2 would be tough, but a RWD Nissan GT-R wearing the familiar orange and black livery of the Hankook team is enough for us to give it a chance. The car is made up of a multitude of lightweight carbon fiber body panels from Seibon, a 4.0 Liter stroker kit, KW coil over kit and a set of 19 inch Weds Sports wrapped in the obligatory Ventus R-S3 Ultra High Performance rubber. With experienced drifter Robbie Nishida behind the wheel this drift GT-R should rack up a few wins in next year’s Formula D championship, that is if import racing legend Steph Papadakis doesn’t step in on the action.
If you thought that in order to get a hand built high performance engine you have to break the bank for a high end Mercedes Benz AMG model then you are mistaken. That is because America’s favorite sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette’s 21st century small block V8 uses the same one builder one engine methodology at GMs Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan. This allows the master craftsman to take their time and meticulously prepare and then put together the high performance power plants that will eventually go into the wide bodied Grand Sport, the 505 HP Z06 and even supercharged ZR-1 Corvette super car. So the next time you are thinking about high performance high quality hand crafted machinery, just know that you con find it right here in the good old U.S. of A.
In the spring of 1951 at the Turin show Ferrari unveiled the 342 America. However before it, in 1950 Ferrari unveiled the 340 America, a model built in just a few units and powered by a “long-block” V-12 engine designed by Aurelio Lampredi. For this engine the distance between adjacent cylinders was some 20mm greater than in the Colombo V-12 (this is where the “long-block” name come from).
First used in a grand prix competition, the this 340-hp 4.5-liter engine was detuned to 4.1 liters and placed in the 340 America. The 340 America were fitted with a surprising array of different coachwork, ranging from a development of the classic barchetta body style by Carrozzeria Touring, to quite staid three-box 2+2 coupés from the house of Ghia, with a selection of Vignale interpretations thrown in along the way. A Vignale-bodied 340 America berlinetta won the 1950 Mille Miglia driven by Villoresi/Cassani. Vignale also produced a unique 340 America cabriolet that unfortunately no longer exists in its original form, as its body was cut up and disposed of as part of an attempted insurance fraud a few years ago, which led to the remains of the car being fitted with a body in the style of a Vignale spider.
The 342 America was produced for a relatively short period during late 1952, with only six examples made, one with a Vignale cabriolet body, and the remainder with a fairly homogeneous Pininfarina body in either coupe or cabriolet form. They were built on a 2650 mm wheelbase, tubular steel chassis, as opposed to the 2420 mm wheelbase of the 340 America, and also featured slightly wider front and rear track.
